Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct – UNITY Fitness Harbourfront

Our Commitment

UNITY Fitness Harbourfront is dedicated to maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment. All members and guests must follow Ontario’s Human Rights Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as UNITY’s internal policies designed to protect safety, comfort, and respect for all. UNITY reserves the right to suspend or revoke membership privileges-without refund-for policy violations.

Code of Conduct & Gym Etiquette

Members must treat others with courtesy and respect, follow staff direction, and refrain from abusive, aggressive, or discriminatory behaviour. Profanity, harassment, and vandalism are not tolerated.

Members must train responsibly: return all equipment to its proper place, rerack weights by size and type, wipe down machines and mats after use, and keep walkways clear. Gym bags are not permitted on the floor and must be stored in lockers. Do not drop weights, lean plates against equipment, or monopolize multiple stations during peak times.

Food and beverages are not permitted anywhere in the facility-only water bottles with secure lids are allowed. Personal belongings and noise should be kept to a minimum to preserve the experience of others. Filming or photography of others without consent is prohibited.

Members are responsible for their own safety and must use equipment within their abilities. Those seeking guidance may book a session with a UNITY Personal Trainer.

Members who attempt to sneak in guests or provide access to non-members will have their membership immediately revoked. Membership payments must remain current; members with overdue balances will be denied access until payment is received.

Access, Guests & Membership Changes

Members must scan their membership barcode upon entry. Guests must check in at the front desk, sign a waiver, and remain with their host member for the duration of their visit. Members are responsible for the behaviour of their guests, and any member who brings in an unauthorized guest or attempts to bypass the guest policy will have their membership revoked without refund.

All membership changes, holds, cancellations, and billing inquiries must be submitted in writing by email or via the appropriate form. Changes cannot be processed in person or by phone. This ensures all requests are properly documented and handled in accordance with policy timelines.

Classes, Gymnasium & Aquatics

Members must sign in for all classes, gymnasium programming, and aquatics bookings at the instructor’s tablet or sheet. Doors lock at class start time, and late entry is not permitted. Cancelling within six hours or failing to attend will result in a strike; three strikes in one month will result in a fourteen-day suspension from bookings. Strikes can only be removed if the member’s account shows a front-desk scan before class.

Temperatures in studios and pool areas are preset for consistency and will not be adjusted.

Filming & Devices

Filming is permitted only with a visible filming pass purchased at the front desk and only during the following hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM, 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM, and 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM Saturday- Sunday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Filming outside of these hours is not permitted. All filming must be respectful of other members’ space and privacy, and permission must be obtained from anyone who appears in your content. Tripods or other filming equipment placed on the fitness floor are subject to removal if they obstruct walkways, take up excessive space, or result in complaints from other members.

UNITY reserves the right to stop filming at any time, even during approved filming hours, if it disrupts the environment, impacts safety, or interferes with others’ workouts. Sponsored or branded content requires advance approval from management. Personal calls must be taken in the lobby, and music may only be played through headphones.

During group fitness classes, please store all cell phones and other electronic devices with your personal belongings. Cell phones are not allowed in the Group Ex, Hot Yoga, or Cycle Studios.

Texting and making calls while in class is strictly prohibited. If you must use your phone, you will need to leave the studio and will not be allowed to re-enter the class.

Attire & Footwear

Indoor athletic footwear is required. Outdoor shoes, open-toed shoes, and heels are not permitted. Shoes must be removed in Yoga and Pool areas. Jeans and dress clothing are not permitted. Shirts and footwear (except during Yoga) must be worn at all times.

Change Rooms & Lockers

Lockers are for day use only; bags must be stored inside and not on the fitness floor. Items left overnight will be moved to Lost & Found. Filming, photography, or personal grooming (such as shaving or hair dyeing) are not permitted in change rooms. Please avoid heavily scented products. UNITY is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Personal Training

Training sessions may only be conducted by UNITY-employed trainers. Members may not provide or receive coaching from outside trainers.

Smoking, Substances & Safety

Smoking, vaping, or substance use is strictly prohibited anywhere in the facility. Safety is a shared responsibility—report any injuries, hazards, or incidents to staff immediately so an incident report can be completed.

Closing Policy

All members must exit the facility at closing time. Members who remain in the facility after closing may have security called to escort them from the premises and risk permanent revocation of their membership. Please plan workouts accordingly and respect staff during closing procedures.

Acknowledgment

All members must review and agree to this Code of Conduct as part of their membership agreement. A signed Liability Waiver must also be completed before using any UNITY Fitness Harbourfront facilities or services.
